Glands; Classification may also be based upon the manner of secretion. During holocrine secretion the entire cell content is discharged, as in these sebaceous glands. During apocrine secretion (e.g. mammary glands) the apical cytoplasm is discharged leaving the nucleus behind. During merocrine secretion (e.g. pancreas) the cytoplasm remains intact.
