TEM #12-4 (Urinary Bladder-Mouse, X18,900)-
This is a thin section through a sheet of smooth muscle which is responsible for contraction of the bladder. The individual muscle fibers (2) have centrally located nuclei (1) and small caveolae (5) along their sarcolemma. This micrograph also shows nerve terminals (varicosities) (4) which contain numerous small vesicles which hold the neurotransmitter substance.
