SMP Team Leaders

Susan Mulroney, Ph.D.
Professor

The Director of the Special Master's Program, Dr. Mulroney is also director of the medical Gastrointestinal Biology course and is past director of the summer Medical Physiology course. She received her Ph.D. from Georgetown University. Her laboratory investigates the impact of gonadal sex on the development of diabetic renal and cardiovascular diseases, and the effects of dietary herbs on the renal, cardiovascular, and immune systems. Office Location: Basic Science Bldg, Room 253.

Thomas Sherman, Ph.D.
Associate Professor

Dr. Sherman is an Associate Director of The Special Master's Program and teaches in the medical Metabolism, Signal Transduction and Nutrition course, as well as the Human Nutrition and Health course. Dr Sherman also lectures in the Human Endocrinology course. He received his Ph.D. from University of Texas, Southwestern Medical Center. His research interests include: neuroendocrine regulation of hypothalamic vasopressin and oxytoxin gene expression; molecular mechanisms of steroid hormone receptor expression and of steroid hormone feedback on neuropeptide genes. Office location: Basic Science Bulding, Room 233.

Jennifer (Rogers) Whitney, Ph.D.
Instructor
Dr Whitney is an Associate Director of The SMP, and received her Ph.D. in Physiology from Georgetown University. She teaches the non-cadaveric Gross Anatomy lectures for the Cardiopulmonary Biology, GI Biology, and Sexual Development & Reproduction courses, and is also Course Director for the Advanced Physiology & Pathophysiology graduate course. Dr Whitney also is director of the summer Medical Physiology course for GSMI. Her research interests are on growth homone-mediated sex differences in diabetic renal disease. Office Location: Basic Science Building, Room 235B.

Adam Myers, Ph.D.
Professor and Associate Dean
Dr Myers is Associate Dean for Graduate Education for the Medical Center, and is a Team Leader for The SMP. Dr. Myers also teaches the cardiovascular portion of the medical Cardiopulmonary Biology course, and is Director of the Georgetown Summer Medical Institute (GSMI). He received his Ph.D. from Georgetown University. His research interests are: cellular mechanisms of platelet and vascular function; mechanisms and mediators of shock, ischemia, and thrombosis; alcohol and platelet function. Office Location: Basic Science Bldg., Room 207.
