8 Philological Reconstruction

Philological reconstruction refers to building perceptions out of the literary passages and remnant words of an age. By reading poems or studying inventory records, one can see a time period with the eyes of its inhabitants and understand its "daily life". This perception of the medieval focuses on the every-day. It is in stark contrast to the other nine more dramatic or romantic perceptions. It is the documentary version of the Middle Ages - and like all documentaries it also carries the biases of its maker.
