Students at Georgetown have many opportunities throughout
the year to attend talks by cutting-edge researchers in
the field of SLA. Conferences are often held in the DC area
(e.g., AAAL 2008 in Washington, DC; ECOLT 2005 at the George
Washington University), the CBBC
annual workshop, and Georgetown University has hosted
GURT (the Georgetown University Round Table on Languages
and Linguistics) every year since 1948. Last year, the theme
of GURT was
"Educating
for Advanced Foreign Language Capacities: Constructs, Curriculum,
Instruction, Assessment." Georgetown also regularly
welcomes prominent speakers to give talks on campus.
