Listen again to Dr. McCann. In this clip he talks about how he, as a patient, has learned to defend himself and equalize the relationship. Think about your own experiences or family experiences and discuss ways in which patients can influence their relationship with the medical profession. Are these defenses and adjustments positive? Do they help or hinder the relationship? What do you think McCann's statement about the doctor not being interested in the patient's personal life might mean? Do you agree with that observation?
