April 1, 2006 – Prof. Toshiko Ichiye has been awarded grants from NIH and NSF.

The National Institutes of Health awarded Prof. Toshiko Ichiye a four-year (September 1, 2005-August 31, 2009), $1,056,000 grant for her proposal about “Computer Simulations of Electron Transfer Proteins.” This grant focuses on understanding how iron-sulfur proteins promote energy transfer in biological systems using molecular dynamics computer simulations and electronic structure calculations.

Prof. Ichiye was also awarded a four-year, $639,712 grant from the National Science Foundation titled “Theoretical Studies of Aqueous Solvation of Proteins.” This grant, effective April 1, 2006, focuses on developing new models of liquid water for computer simulations of proteins and on understanding how water helps to determine the structure and stability of proteins.
