Georgetown University is located in northwest Washington, DC, just across the Potomac River from Rosslyn, Virginia. The university's main campus (the GURT 06 conference site) and our two recommended hotels are located within the historic and lively neighborhood of Georgetown. The closest subway stops to Georgetown are "Rosslyn" and "Foggy Bottom" on the Orange and Blue Lines and "Dupont Circle" on the Red Line (subway map). The closest bus lines include G2, D2, D6, and 38B. If traveling by taxi, the driver should be asked to go to 37th and O Street NW (Georgetown University main gate). Some of the many different ways to reach our campus are detailed below.

By Air

There are three major airports in the Washington area: Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), and BWI (Baltimore Washington International) Airport. Dulles Airport is the area's largest airport and has the most flights, especially for international travelers. National Airport is the closest to Georgetown University's main campus. BWI Airport is the farthest from DC (it is close to Baltimore), but some airlines offer cheaper fares going there.

By Train

Trains from around the US arrive directly downtown at Union Station. In addition to the designated taxi line outside the building, Union Station has a MetroRail stop (Red Line) in its basement.

To get to Georgetown, take the Red Line (destination: Shady Grove) to Dupont Circle.   From Dupont Circle, buses (G2, D2 and D6) and taxis will take you to the Georgetown area (see also below - Public Transportation around DC).

By Bus

The main bus terminal in Washington, DC is located at 1005 1st Street NE, close to Union Station (10 minutes walk). Union Station has a MetroRail stop (Red Line). To get to Georgetown University, take the Red Line to Dupont Circle (direction: Shady Grove). From Dupont Circle, Metro Buses (G2, D2 and D6) and taxis will take you to the Georgetown area. However, if you arrive late in the day, we strongly recommend you take a taxi to get to Georgetown from the bus terminal and avoid walking around the area at night.
