Georgetown Center for Liturgy's Coaching Philosophy
We at the Georgetown Center for Liturgy believe that the coaching and mentoring
relationship that will be established between you, the client, and your assigned
coach is the core value of the Leading from the Heart program. In our
opinion, the coaching/mentoring relationship provides the best avenue for you
to enhance your presiding and preaching competencies, and achieve what you most
want to achieve. An added bonus of Leading from the Heart is the access
you will have to people who specialize in liturgical studies, presiding, and
preaching.
We do not view the approach used for Leading from the Heart as an evaluation process per se, nor as passing judgments on your presiding and/or preaching skills. Rather, your coach’s primary aim is to do what he or she can to help you achieve your goals.
What does the Center for Liturgy and your coach expect from you?
To maximize the benefits of your participation in this process, it is important that you come to it with the level of desire and motivation needed to grow in your knowledge of liturgy and to enhance your presiding and preaching competencies.
Your experience with this process will also be aided by communicating with your coach in accordance with the schedule that the two of you agree to follow for the exchange of information and telephone calls. For example, if you need to reschedule a telephone call with your coach, please do so at least 24 hours in advance. We recognize that emergencies might arise which would prohibit a 24-hour notice, so at these times, we ask that you contact your coach as soon as possible before the scheduled call to advise him or her of the situation.
What can you expect from your coach?
You can expect that your coach will respect the confidential nature of the process and do his or her best to assist you. He or she will also adhere to the schedule for the exchange of information and telephone calls. If the coach needs to reschedule a telephone call or adjust the schedule in any way, he or she will notify you in a timely manner.
