The beginning of the 21st Century brought significant security challenges affecting countries and societies around the world. New security policies have had an impact on a multitude of areas ranging from civil liberties, diplomacy, trade, cyber-security and inter-faith relations.
Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and Georgetown University plan
to present a multi-disciplinary course to examine the implications of
government anti-terrorism policies from a multidisciplinary perspective.
With two-weeks at Georgetown University in Washington, DC and two weeks
in Berlin, participants will engage in current security issues from
both a European and American perspective, culminating in the receipt
of a certificate from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
With access to the nation’s leading experts on national security,
the Washington program will include lectures and site visits of Washington
DC’s key security policy organizations and think tanks during
the two weeks at the beginning of the program.
During the two weeks in Berlin, the focus will lie on the theoretical,
philosophical and political background of the notion of security. In
addition, this part will analyse the current debates in Europe in general
and Germany in particular about the enforcement of new security laws.
Contradictions between different areas of security (data, social, political)
will be scrutinized.
