Path: Main / BiographySpiros Dimolitsas became Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of Georgetown University in November 2001. In his role as Senior Vice President, Dimolitsas is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and organization of Georgetown University's administrative affairs. Prior to Joining Georgetown University, Dimolitsas served as senior executive for Engineering and associate director at the Lawrence Livermore National Lab (LLNL), a $1.5 billion, 7,500 employee research and development organization which is a joint project of the University of California and the U.S. Department of Energy. LLNL is a multidisciplinary applied-science national security laboratory with programs in advanced defense technologies, energy, environment, biosciences, and basic science. During his tenure at LLNL, Dimolitsas helped increase annual funding for engineering by 50 percent to $450 million and research and development funding by more than 200 percent, while reducing administrative costs. From 1986 until 1995, Dimolitsas held senior positions with Comsat Laboratories, where he implemented a secure communications system over Comsat's mobile network in addition to designing and launching other initiatives, all of which increased revenues substantially. Dimolitsas holds a bachelor's degree in physics from Sussex University in England, a master's degree in nuclear reactor engineering from London University, and a doctoral degree in electrical and computer engineering from Sussex University. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Maxoptix Corporation and a consultant to the $175 million telecommunications Smart Technology Venture III fund. He also has been a Research Fellow with the Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Medicine and is an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Fellow. Dimolitsas holds five patents and is the author of 60 papers. |
