Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan

 

 



First-time graduate PLUS loan borrowers must complete all of the steps listed below.

Returning borrowers of the graduate PLUS loan need only complete steps 1-4.

Note: The maximum amount a student may borrow in a graduate PLUS loan is the cost of attendance minus all other financial aid received. You must exhaust all annual subsidized/unsubsidized loan limits prior to receiving a graduate PLUS loan.

How to apply for your loan:

Step 1: Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Step 2: After receiving your financial aid award notification, please accept, decline, or reduce your award as necessary.

Step 3: Log-in to www.studentloans.gov with your federal PIN to complete your credit application. Select either "Start PLUS Application Process" or "Request PLUS Loan". If credit approved, please move on to step 4 below. If your credit is denied, follow the instructions per the Department of Education regarding the potential for approval with a credit-worthy endorser.

Step 4: Complete your Master Promissory Note on www.studentloans.gov by selecting either "Complete Master Promissory Note" or "Complete MPN".

Step 5: First-time borrowers must complete the online Entrance Counseling by selecting "Complete Entrance Counseling" on www.studentloans.gov .
