Eligibility for Aid Unless otherwise indicated on your financial aid award letter, your initial aid package calculates your eligibility for aid assuming enrollment for twelve credits in each of the Fall and Spring semesters. If you enroll for less than twelve credits for either the Fall or Spring semester, or if you withdraw from the University prior to the end of either term, your eligibility for financial aid may change significantly. Why Aid May Be Reduced If you enroll part time or withdraw from the University, your cost of education will be recalculated using typically reduced tuition costs, and a pro-rated room and board, book, personal and travel allowance. Your expected contribution should remain the same. If your cost of attendance decreases and your expected contribution remains the same, your eligibility for aid will probably be reduced. Must Be Half Time You must be enrolled at least half time to be eligible to receive federal financial aid. If you are not sure about whether your credit hour enrollment is considered half time status, contact your department or program for assistance. Generally, “less than half time” is defined for Georgetown graduate students as enrollment for less than five credit hours in a semester, with the exception of thesis research and continuous registration. Refunds When you register for classes, you accept responsibility for charges for the entire semester. If you wish to withdraw from a class or from the University, you must complete the appropriate documents through the Graduate School in order to receive any refund of charges. If you withdraw from a class or from Georgetown, credit for tuition will be calculated from the date the Graduate School was notified, according to the percentages below. In most cases, no refund is given for fees, regardless of the date of your withdrawal.
More Information Additional information about withdrawals and refunds is available in the Graduate School Catalogue. Scholarship Awards and Withdrawal GU scholarship recipients should take special note of the policies regarding withdrawal from courses. Because courses from which you withdraw cannot be applied to your degree program, your award will not cover the tuition due for such courses. If you withdraw from any course after the Add/Drop period, you will be held responsible for payment of the full amount of prorated tuition due for that course. |
